Default bottle caps

Can anyone tell me for certain if plastic bottle tops are recyclable? I assumed they were, but an Aveda ad suggested otherwise. The ad said that Aveda was offering to take the caps since they are not normally recycled.

I really do not have any idea how to recycle them and probably make something useful at home from these plastic bottle caps. However, there are some junk shops here in the Philippines that buy them. I do not know what they do with them though.

I've wondered this, too, because I know so many people that take off the caps and throw them away instead of putting them with the rest of their recycling. I don't understand why they *wouldn't* be recyclable.

I recycle the plastic bottles with their cap on. I've seen what they pull out of those machines, and it is shreded pastic, including the caps. So, They are recyclable too. Maybe some people save them for something else.

Yes I believe they are recyclable. I have seen them in bins with the caps on and nothing has ever been said or done that would make me think otherwise.

At the pharmacy we use, the bottles are recyclable but the caps aren't. I can't think of a use for them, so unfortunately I dump them in the trash. With the milk jugs, the tops look like they're made of the same material so I put both in the recycling. I'll throw the caps in separately though, just in case they're not.

I separate them as well even though I have thought before that it probably isn't too difficult for the industrial recycling machines to deal with the caps. I wonder why they can't just be made with the same material to make it easier for everyone involved?

Good question, R, it seems very logical to make caps of the same material as the bottles. The manufacturers must have a "good" reason why they don't, I'll bet.

The plastic caps on the plastic bottles are recyclable. What makes them undesirable is most of them are colored. It's the same with glass. When you take glass to a recycling center they have you separate out the different colors. I asked when I took my stuff to the recycler.
