Oooohhhh! I never would've thought of this. So what about the bottles that are different colors (like green Mtn Dew, Vault, and Sprite)? If the cap is the same color as the bottle, is it okay to leave it on then?

As far as I know, they can add some colorant to the whole plastic and then use it for something else. With glass is melted glass and the clear glass is better to keep it "clear", but with plastics, usually they recycle it into something different, like toys or industrial parts.

Default Bottle caps

I have always thrown my bottle caps away with my bottles. I agree that they should be made from a different material. So it all can be disposed of in the same way.

You can also collect the caps and make some kind of mosaic, some kind of artistic thing. The thing is that if you have ideas, you can do a million things!

I've actually done that! Donate the caps to the local elementary school art teacher - she'll appreciate any resource she can get, I am sure!

Local elementary schools are actually a great idea. Lots of little kids could do great crafts with items like this. It's a much better option that garbage to be sure.

I had no idea that they were made out of different material. I just put them in with the plastic and they pick it up to recycle. I wonder now if they are separating them?

Default adult Rx caps

We have always gotten child-safe Rx bottle caps because we never thought to change back to adult caps as we have no children at home. I hadn't thought about it at all until one of my Rxs came back to me with an adult cap. They are less brittle and they remind me a bit of milk bottle caps, which we agree are most likely recyclable. I am going to call my pharmacy tomorrow and ask them to change our Rxs to adult caps and see if they know if they are recyclable.Even if they don't I think I'll throw them in a few times, just in case they are.
