Default Recycling Cans

I was just wondering if anyone on here is recycling aluminum cans? I was actually surprised at how easy it is to do and how much aluminum is going for at the moment.

I personally do not recycle aluminum cans but when we do have lots of those aluminum cans we sell them to the junk shops that buy them. I think that it is really great to have these shops that buy them because we do not only help save the environment, we also get to earn extra money.

When money was tight we would collect not only our aluminum cans but get everybody else's as well. We still recycle our aluminum cans but we give them to a neighborhood kid who does our yard now.

We recycle all our cans via the council run schemes. I'd collect them in bulk and cash them in if there were that option in my area, but I would rather recycle them for free than see them wasted.

My husband found out that they are going for .30 cents a pound in our area. That is really pretty good. It is nice to get paid something and recycle at the same time.

Well, here in NY I pay a 0.05 deposit for every can and every bottle, and then I can take them to a place where they have recycling machines and I can get the deposit back. I thought that was someting available in most states, but I guess it is not.

If you read the top of the can/back of the bottle you'll see the list of states that pay for redemption and often require a bottle deposit. I'm up in New England where ME and NH I believe pay .05/each. Recycling is required in my town, so I recycle the full gamit of cans/bottles/paper/cardboard. If its plastic, glass, paper or metal it gets recycled. The town puts the funds towards upgrades to the transfer station which is nice.

Our area market has recycling machines you feed the cans and plastic bottles in , then they grind them up (it's quite fun really)and then the machine spits out a voucher that shows the value of the stuff you've recycled; you can buy groceries or whatever you want at the store with the vouchers.

My mother uses a little trick when she puts the aluminum cans aside. She takes the used aluminum foil and twists them up and puts them into the cans. She was told by one of the recycling places years ago that they did not take aluminum foil as aluminum even though it was made of aluminum. But she could put the aluminum foil inside the cans to get credit for the foil. She has been doing this ever since. It does increase the poundage.

Yeah, it's incredibly easy to recycle them and I really wish more people would consider doing so.
