Default Junk cars

We're moving from the mainland to Hawaii permanently here in a about a year, and we have unfortunately collected several junked cars through the years. How should I get rid of them without just sending them to the junk yard? Any ideas? They are too gone to be donated to charity.

Sometimes people want parts of cars - you could still donate them to charity for that purpose unless they have a "must run" policy.

There are salvage yards that will allow people to buy those spare parts that can be used. Find yourself a good one and you won't have to worry about it sitting there forever and going to waste.

Salvage yards! Thank you. I will look through the phone book and see if I can find one that will take them. I did find someone with a flat bed who will haul them for a small fee, so I may see them gone soon (and finally!).

My local fire station accept non running cars to practice rescues on. They use them to practice using their metal cutting equipment on.

The cancer society accepts all kinds of cars. Give them a call, maybe they are interested in your donations. Also, you can recycle them for parts or just for metal.

Many places will be glad to just have the parts if nothing else. Some charities want every donated vehicle to be running but many of them will be happy to have anything rather than nothing so it's worth giving this avenue a shot.

Based on what you have told us about your junk cars, I would also have to say that salvage yards would be your best bet.

We have put a few of our cars in there, once they were too far gone to do much else with.

Somebody else can get a good use out of the individual parts however.

There is a lot of good value in parts, especially parts for old cars because usually these parts are difficult to source. So I would agree that your best bet is to find a salvage yard close to you.

I would agree that a salvage yard is a good option. I cannot tell you how many times the salvage yard has saved me money in a pinch when you need a part for your car.
