Default Plastic Bags

I was wondering what you guys do with the plastic bags that you get at grocery stores? Thanks.

I use them for the garbage. I haven't bought any garbage bags in years. But I've used them also for isolation when it is too cold and I feel some air coming in. While in Germany I was using only bags made out of fabric, because they didn't give you bags at the supermarket. They charge 0.10 to 0.25 euros for each bag and it is way expensive.

Thanks, I have thought about buying a cloth bag to take with me and just be done with the stores bags.

I haven't bought garbage bags in years either as I have so many of these plastic bags from the supermarket. This cuts down the amount of those little bags I use by at least half.

I always carry a fabric bag or spare plastic bags so that I don't have to accept yet more plastic carriers, yet I still end up with them at home. I too use them as bin liners, but I've seen some very interesting looking designs for woven mats and even flip flops made from old plastic carrier bags on the net.

We reuse plastic bags for subsequent grocery shopping or as trash bags for small trash containers in bedrooms and the office.

We do this, too. I try to avoid plastic bags often times anyway, but the ones I end up with get saved and used around the house.

Does anyone have first hand experience of plastic bag taxes? Has it made a noticable difference to the number of plastic bags used in your area?

They are just starting the bag tax in my area. I'm hoping it makes a big difference!

In my home I use my bags, which I rarely get because of my cloth shopping bags, for kitty litter bags. Though I'm thinking of switching to feline pine, which is supposedly compostable and can go in the compost collection (not a backyard bin though, doesn't get hot enough to destroy bacteria).

Using them for smaller trash cans is one of the ways we use the plastic bags from the store. they are also useful for travel; you can pack away everything and know where it is (vitamins in one bag, Prescriptions in another.) I take a few when we travel to put wet bathing suits and dirty clothes.
The stores in our area used to give you a five cent credit when you brought in your own bags, but they're not doing it now.
