Default Pool question kind of off topic?

We try to do things at home more than go out since the prices of gas are evil and town is more than a little far off. Luckily we have a good size backyard and I am really debating having a pool put in. Any chance someone knows if a pool (under ground) pump and all that could run off solar?

You know that is a really good question. I know that there are solar heaters but I have never seen a solar pump yet for a pool. Maybe someone on here has though. I would be curious myself to know if there are any?

I was also thinking since my better half is a little geeky that maybe we could get an older pump and experiment with it a little bit and see if its something we can do. If it can be done backyard home style, I'm sure its something that could be done for mass markets.

It's worth a shot. You just never know what you would be able to come up with. My husband likes to fiddle around with finding new ways to do things also.

What about using instead of solar power, wind power? that could be an alternative that can be "working" for more time, while the sun well, we know what happens at night! LOL!
