Proposed Change to US hardiness zones

Because of increased temperatures in the region between 1990 and 2006 then Arbor Day Foundation has proposed changes in the current hardiness zones used for planting. The proposed changes are in the form of a map:
The Arbor Day Foundation
The pink and red indicate warming of the climate.

So, if I understand this correctly, the zones are changing to compensate for the rise in average temperature?

If so, I guess I better recheck what I plan to plant in my yard this year!

Yes, that is correct. The change is due to rise in average temperature of the climate. The changes are just proposed by the Arbor Day Foundation. They haven't yet been adopted in the US. I thought the propostition was of particular interest to this forum.

For sure the US is warming up. We don't notice it that much on the coast, but LA for sure is warming up big time. We visited last year in March and people were running round in shorts. I was raised in LA and I remember that, such as it was, there was a winter there. We were wearing coats and sweaters into March when I was a kid. The yearly fire season is expanding, as well.

It is kinda sad that they even have to do this. I'm glad they're taking the time to revise their maps, though, so trees can be planted in the appropriate areas and hopefully survive.
