I have been using my own version of beer traps. I don't drink alcohol so basically it is death by lemonade for the slugs, it seems to work just as well and it avoids the problem of the dog getting hold of alcohol. My son 13, who seems to delight in gruesome things is happy to empty the traps every day.

Nematodes are used against slugs and snails. They're a teeny tiny worm which is naturally found in most soil. You can boost their populations as an aid in the fight against slugs and other garden pests as they are their natural predator.

Nematodes in General

I don't have alot of problems with ants in my kitchen, but a friend who does was telling me that he lays down a little line of boric acid on his window sill and counters and he says that ants won't cross it. He didn't know why, but I thought I'd ask here. Anybody know?

I don't know about less violent methods, slugs and snails in my garden meet an end by spearing or smashing. I don't feel great about it, but they'd never let my cucumbers come up if I didn't!

If you want to keep ants away from your fruit and vegetable plants use "used" dried coffee grounds. You can use it to keep ants out of the house as well. It acts like arsenic for any ants. They take their grounds back to their nest and it kills the nest.

We aren't really having problems with bugs in our gardens, but we are struggling with them everywhere else!

Be it flies or ants, I need some way to keep those buggers away without hurting the environment or them.

So, I don't know what to tell you...

Our big problem is with wasps. they like to make their nests in the eaves of the house or around in neighbouring houses and we're forever finding them in the house.

The only thing I can suggest for wasps is smoke. Other than that I don't have a problem with them.

Naturally Concerned, see my previous post about ants and coffee grounds.

Sally, try sprinkling salt on them if you see them. Just take the canister and sprinkle some on them. It dissolves them but i think is a bit less disgusting than spearing or smashing. Best time to catch them is at night if you can get some light in that area then.

My sons just found this out about putting salt on slugs. Now we have no problem because they are out looking for them just so they can put salt on them.
