Default Nature

Arghh!!!

Went to renew my subscription to Nature and it's still only offered in print plus online! In this day and age I don't want or need another weekly journal sent half way around the world to me when I'm perfectly happy looking up everything I need online!!!

They charge 210 pounds to send the magazine to me for a year, that's over 500 aussie dollars. Arrghh just had to vent

I understand what you mean. Most of the time, I prefer to receive these magazines online. Like I do not have enough space in my room for another magazine or journal.

Some businesses seem to be having trouble switching to the digital age. I can understand how some clothing companies and other tangible goods dealers would need to keep physical store fronts, but a magazine should be able to go to digital editions with little trouble.

Perhaps you can find a comparable magazine that offers a digital edition for members!

It's definitely improving, though, and some publications are being built specifically 'for' online now, so hopefully in the next few years they'll be able to at least offer it to people who wish to view it only online.

I got an answer that no they don't offer online only subscriptions. I find that ironic from a scientific journal that covers the natural sciences. Why bother offering online only when we can chop down more trees!

Answer, as always, seems to be greed. They allow online access at an article level but that's insanely expensive, I'm not paying 15 bucks to read an article!

Yes, I to have noticed a lot more magazines going digital. I have always been getting my books from my library online. Saves a lot of paper and driving time.

Is that the fee to read one article?

Perhaps you should write a letter to the editor to see what their response is. This may be an oversight, but it does sound a bit greedy!
