Default GE Crops

I was very sadden to see certain states in Australia lift their moratorium on Genetically Engineered crops last month. I'm sure we'll all live to regret it! I just don't know how much longer we can keep making these commercial decisions at the cost of our environment and possibly health?

Money won't buy you anything when there's nothing left to buy or you're dead!

We tried to stop it! What's worse is we don't have strict labelling laws so ge canola used to produce an ingrediant doesn't mean the final product will be labelled as GMO.

All i want is the freedom to choose if i want to eat GMO.

But if the crops require less chemicals and water isn't that a good thing? There's no evidnce that ge crops are bad for you aaprt from something to do with feeding nothing but potatoes to a cow and it got ill. big surprise!!!

It's not really about GE crops being bad for you, although I'm not 100% convinced that they aren't. It's about the genetic diversity of the crops. By growing GE crops we're leaving ourselves open to massive crop failures when they get hit with a disease. We're also pushing out the old land races of corn and in some cases contaminating them with GE crops. Biodiversity is there for a reason and tampering with it is only going to lead to harm.

I do not think that enough efforts are being made to educate people as to exactly what the issues around GE foods are. Therefore most of us are incapable of making sensible decisions for or against eating them.

What was their reasoning for lifting the ban? Was it an economical decision?

I have no idea why they lifted the ban, but I guess they probably realize that the GE Crops are not too bad and are easier to harvest. But that is just my idea.

Oh, that's horrible. The fight just to get a ban on GE crops in the first place is tough enough but to have it revoked is even worse I think. Hopefully there will be enough public outcry to get things back to how they should be.
