Starting on July 1st, the Green Markets in NYC will start accepting the EBT Cards (former food stamps), so many people with less income might be able to obtain organic produce and other local produce. I was talking to a friend this afternoon and she told me about it. At least there are some health concious policies!
Wow, that's pretty awesome! I hope people can take advantage of it.
The only problem I see is that there is not too much knowledge of that. Perhaps with some good campaign people will know about it. Or maybe the people carrying those cards already know.
That's a very cool iniatiative and one that a lot of big cities would be wise to adopt. If people with low income have the option to buy organic then it makes these products more accessible to everyone -- something necessary if we're hoping to have long-term adoption.
I agree, we all should be using organic... unfortunatelly organic food is now a bit too expensive for people that don't have the means for it and don't qualify for food stamps. So, until the prices come down, people like m e, will have to use the non organic.
Wow... that seems like a great plan! I only wish that the organic products were affordable to everyone. I hate to say it, but a price hike of non-organics may be the answer.
