Default Anyone else tired of being dismissed as an 'Alarmist'?

Boy I do hate most online climate discussions. You can bet that they will disolve in to the 'Alarmists' vs. the 'Deniers' in no time at all. With both sides refusing to listen.

I get so mad reading some threads on nytimes or new scientist sometimes I have to take a breather or my blood pressure will go through the roof

It seems you have avoided the worst of both sides for now. I hope this continues. I value balanced discussion without the name calling of both extremes. Plus it's better for my blood pressure!!!!!

There's really no use in divinding into warring camps about environmental issues. Most of the time there can be a middle ground found even if there are two vastly different ideologies in place. I know what you mean about the 'alarmist' versus 'denier' debate however. It's quite irritating.

I guess I've been lucky so far. Every place I've been with discussions about climate change, have been pretty much civilized. I have my beliefs but I do respect others too.

I would have to agree that so far except for one bad instance on another forum I have been lucky in that I have had very good discussions and they are more towards the middle.

The problem is that those who disagree really don't want to believe that there something wrong with the environment. If they believed, that would mean that they have done something wrong. They are taking it personally. They shouldn't take it personally because it wasn't just them it was everybody on the planet.

Well, I don't think people should complain about anything unless they intend to do something about it.

Well, I can see everyone's point and I'm not fond of discord BUT having to wait for people to catch up on the climate change crisis, whether they just figured it out or pretended they didn't so they could make fortunes, really steams me.

I think it's quite possible to have completely opposing views, yet still have a worthwhile and civilised discussion.

It is so easy to sit and do nothing that a lot of people much prefer to stay in their comfort zone and deny that we have an immediate problem. Once you acknowledge that there is an immediate problem at hand, you look more like the fool for not attempting do something about it. That takes effort, time and money, so it's easier to deny it.

Matt, I've found that in this forum usually people are very respectful and I must agree with tater03 that discussions stay in the middle.
