Default Ethanol

I was just wondering what you all thought about ethanol? The more I read about this the more I think that this is just not the way to go. Of course it seems our government believes that this is the way to go.

I just can't believe that it's a good thing to use good food crops, like corn, to make fuel. I understand the need for bio-fuels but this is too much of a trade-off.

We must reduce our dependence on crude oil and in particular oil from the volatile Middle East. Ethanol is a greener fuel but its production from corn is much less efficient than it is from cane. In my view, the production of ethanol should be encouraged but not from cane, not corn.

I really don't know what to think of it. In the beginning, I thought it was a great idea, but as time goes on, it just doesn't seem as wonderful as it once did.

Cane ethanol has been in production in-I think it's Mexico, for many years. It's successful and reasonably efficient, but I am not sure how much carbon is used in it's processing.

Brazil is the second largest producer of ethanol in the world. Only the US produces more. However the big difference is that Brazil's ethanol is derived from the sugar-cane and the US' is from corn. The production of ethanol from cane sugar is nearly 7 times as efficient as it is from corn.

I will have to see what else I can find on getting it from sugar cane. I had not run across this yet. All the things I have read is talking about getting it from corn.

When so many people are already starving around the world and food prices keep increasing, how can we all in good consciousness use corn to make fuel?

Why not just recycle cooking grease or something? There has to be a better alternative than wasting food supplies which people around the world need to feed them.
