I think you answered your own question, Carl, in your last sentence. That's why they make "dopey" cars or whatever else environmentally friendly. They don't want them to sell well, they want to make the kind of cars they've always made. Reminds me of the McDonald's "veggieburger" they "tried" to market here; it was a bun with limp cooked squash as the filler. Were they ever *surprised* that the "veggieburger" was not a success in the veggie-friendly Northwest. Now Mc Donald's can say they tried to market a veggie-burger but nobody wanted to buy it.

I have seen that car on TV as well as other pictures over the internet. I do hope that while they are in the process of coming up with an environmentally friendly car, they would also come up with a good and more attractive design.

I think that they are going to have to make a car for famlies. I think it would draw a lot more interest.

I'd love to see a picture as well. I've somehow missed this story completely but would be curious to hear anything about new vehicle technologies that are more environmentally friendly.

As Molly said, I think the car manufacturers are following their own agenda and maybe getting our money is more important to them than been 'green'. I often wonder why vehicles need so much maintenance these days. My present car drives be mad, it has a bleep that goes off to tell me to change a bulb or top up the washer liquid or to get it serviced or countless other things. Oddly it didn't tell me when there was something seriously wrong! I don't think parts are designed to last, and I think we all have to waste a lot of time, money and resources because there is no realistic alternative.
