Biofuels worse for environment

Well it's about time. I've had enough of people selling the 'solution' to our problems without looking at the full story. It's something that happens all the time with climate change or environmental issues. Pandering to the masses with easy solutions so they don't have to change.

Look biofuels, don't stop driving SUV's just use biofuel, everything will be fine!!!

I can't think of the number of alternative fuel examples where although the use of the fuel produces less carbon extracting or refining the fuel will use more. A fact that is always conveinently forgotten!

You're right about the fact that usually people don't see the "full story" and believe in "certain easy" solutions to avoid looking deeply on the real problem.

That can be said about so many things. I think it's hard for some people to realize they can't take everything for face value and should do a little digging around for more information.

The trouble is that the media distort information just to get a headline and our politicians are so busy finding ways to spin information so that it suits their agenda. We all know that it happens and we know that we can't believe everything we are told, the problem is working out what the truth is. Most people just give up and get on with their lives the way they always have.

I think the solution will be on making the cars more electric hybrids and using less and less fuel everytime. Something that would be used to start the engine and then not use fuel anymore. I believe the hybrids or better electrical cars are the real solution to the polluting problems.

Yeah, I think eletrical cars have been undertested and under-utilized when it comes to trying to find an alternative. Who knows what's out there that we could make work?

So if we move to using electricity only instead of fuel, will it cause other polluting problems? Which one outweighs the other?

I am driven nuts by the talk of the biofuels solution. Even electric cars will only work really well if they are self perpetuating-they would have to be so perfect at recharging themselves that you don't lose anything. I simply don't see that happening.

However, electric cars charged by solar power, or hydrogen cars, that might work.

A big part of the problem is that there are so many special interest groups that need to be satisfied, that you can hardly determine who is spinning what and on whose behalf. Most of the media information is just hype and the politicians say what big money dictates.

And unfortunately politicians have to do things that get them the ratings that will keep them in office. That means that often support things that get quick results, even though they are not really a solution to the problem, and that is what I see happening here.
